Located on Hamble Community Sports College’s campus, Hamble Skills Centre is a new £6.7million purpose build post-16 facility. Our Centre has state of the art Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Construction workshops. Dedicated classrooms for the delivery of Health and Social Care, Child Care and Sport are complemented by an IT suite and Library. With its Students Internet Café and staff rooms, our Centre is self contained.
We offer a range of nationally recognised vocational qualifications that are respected by employers. The courses we offer will give you excellent preparation for employment or Further Education. Vocational courses develop a wide range of skills valued by employers.
We offer a broad qualification, such as a BTEC First Diploma, or you can study a more specific area such as Marine Engineering. A course requires time and commitment beyond the hours spent in class. Time commitment will vary according to the course, but as a guide you should spend 10-12 hours per week in addition to class time. Our Centre has a Learning Resource Centre (library) where you are able to study in peace.
Enrichment.
You will have access to a range of enrichment activities on a weekly basis. Hamble Community Sports College has nationally recognised sports facilities and these are available throughout the year.
Money Matters
You will not have to pay any course fees if you are aged 16-18 at the start of the course and you are from the UK, EU or EEA. Depending on your course, you may have to pay for some materials, kits such as boots or trips.
If you are a parent, and under 20, you can get childcare paid for through Care to Learn.
EMA is a national scheme for all students who continue in education after 16. You get £30 per week, depending on your household income and your attendance. You should apply for your EMA as soon as your place is confirmed.
Where next?
Where you go next, after gaining your qualification, depends on the course that you choose and the goals that you wish to achieve. Our courses have been chosen to encourage progression to the courses on offer at our partner FE colleges. You may want to go into employment or progress to a higher level at a different college. A discussion with your Connexions advisor will help you to understand the progression opportunities that are open to you.
